Impressions

Yellow House B&B
This 9 bedroom "cottage" managed to survive a 1947 fire. The fire destroyed most of Acadia and Bar Harbor. A fire so destructive it completely eradicated Acadia's vegetation, allowing entirely new species to move in.

Our B&B is charming and comfortable. Happy Hour is 3-5 with good wines and a yummy signature blueberry margarita. Breakfast is always interesting. Overnight oatmeal/blueberries in a jar with maple syrup. Yesterday - eggs; today oatmeal, quiche and chocolate croissant. Plus they have this neat do-it-yourself espresso machine. It's about a 2-3 minute walk to the village, 10 mins to the harbor.

Just Weird
There are moose pics, moose T's, moose signs, moose everything. While Maine may have the largest moose population in the lower 48; chances of seeing a moose in Acadia is slim to None At All. Not enough space, wrong vegetation and too much water between islands.

I see warnings about black bears, even bear proof trash cans. Again, due to land area, people, dogs, etc… chance of seeing a bear is only slightly higher than a moose sighting.

Visiting Acadia Park
Several friends/fam mentioned wanting to come here. My advise? Book at least a year ahead. One woman told me she booked in April and places/tours were full. Cruise ship arrivals make it hard to get tour rez's. Large chunks are blocked off for ships. Book early! And don't count on fall color. This time last year, Acadia was full of color. This year, there's at least another 10 days before it turns.

But do come! The vistas are incredible. In my mind, next to Alaska, Maine runs a close 2nd to the most beautiful place I've visited.  Even looking at a map, i wasn't prepared for the coast of thousands of islands. Acadia is known for its pinkish granite. It sparkles.

Dining in Bar Harbor
I'm living on Lobster Rolls, each one better than the other. Prices are outrageous, even factoring in the catch and cleaning. But oh so good!

Project Social Kitchen & Bar set the bar
It's sort of tapa's place. They offer small plates to share. I started out with ½ dozen raw oysters with pickled green mignonette - scrumptious. PB wasn't interested in sharing. We did share potatoes, bruschetta, pork belly and lamb meatballs - all served with interesting sauces. And a decent bottle of wine.
