Touring!

We went from locked out of tours to two tours back to back. This morning was a trolley tour. This afternoon is a horse drawn carriage tour, following the trails built by John D Rockefeller Jr - the way he wanted the park seen.

Now, we're on the tour. The guide is exceptional. He mostly talked history for 2.5 hrs. I was in heaven, didn't even need to Fact Check him.

Arriving back in Bar Harbor, we decided to find the Side Street Cafe. Some of our breakfast meals come from Side Street. A couple of locals heard us talking about the cafe, offered a recommendation and gave directions.

I tried the blueberry ale. It's like some sort of fizzy beer. The blueberries kept sort of exploding. Kinda hard to sip my beer with blueberries exploding. Interesting. 
PB had a BLAT (BLT with avocado). I had a haddock Reuben. All good.


Next up Carriage Ride. Tomorrow we pack up and make our way back to Amherst and Hartford.  Home on Sunday.

The Journey to get here

  We arrived yesterday, having spent the past several days in the Hartford, Ct area with family and friends. We visited Trinity College and watched our grandson's football team, Trinity vs Colby. We sat in awe as we watched his parents and friends have an incredible pre/post game celebrations. On our way to Acadia, we stopped in the Boston area to see Kim's new home. Then battled Boston area traffic for an hour as we made it to our 1st stop in Saco, Maine. The motel was old, old, old but clean, absolutely spotless. Someone cares -  alot. We beat the rain. Note: Since we had trouble getting room reservations in late June, you'd think by now PB and I would be alert to the massive amounts of people we're about to encounter ... but no, we're still clueless. The next day we stop in Freeport for an outstanding breakfast at the Freeport Cafe. Then a stop at LLBean's complex. It's huge. I got lost looking for PB. Impressions

Yellow House B&B This 9 bedroom "cottage" managed to survive a 1947 fire. The fire destroyed most of Acadia and Bar Harbor. A fire so destructive it completely eradicated Acadia's vegetation, allowing entirely new species to move in. Our B&B is charming and comfortable. Happy Hour is 3-5 with good wines and a yummy signature blueberry margarita. Breakfast is always interesting. Overnight oatmeal/blueberries in a jar with maple syrup. Yesterday - eggs; today oatmeal, quiche and chocolate croissant. Plus they have this neat do-it-yourself espresso machine. It's about a 2-3 minute walk to the village, 10 mins to the harbor. Just Weird There are moose pics, moose T's, moose signs, moose everything. While Maine may have the largest moose population in the lower 48; chances of seeing a moose in Acadia is slim to None At All. Not enough space, wrong vegetation and too much water between islands. I see warnings about black bears, even bear proof trash cans. Again...
