We're Adaptable - Quickly!

This morning's activity was a trolley tour thru town and the park. That was the plan. When we got to the trolley, we learned we booked for yesterday and not today. Yikes. Fortunately, there are openings tomorrow so we flipped Wednesday for Thursday. Walking to the harbor we noticed the 1st cruise boat arriving - earlier there was dense fog; for an hour we could hear the fog horns blowing. Also noticed just in 48 hrs, color is appearing in the maples.

This is Yellow House, our B&B

Can you see the Monarch?

Instead of the trolley tour, we headed to Bass Harbor Marsh to find Sweetgrass. The Journey was a little disappointing as I couldn't get close to the Sweetgrass - the marsh is surrounded by private homes. I could see it and the sight made me happy. Years ago, after reading Dr. Kimmerer's book "Braiding Sweetgrass" I ordered a plug, planted it below an outside faucet, then promptly forgot about it. Several years later as I was puzzling about a stand of unusual grass I had an Aha! moment - the Sweetgrass! I never had enough to harvest (nor the knowledge to know what to do with it!) but I loved the flow, texture and smell of it.

We made our way to the point and found the Bass Harbor Light House. One tiny road in and out - about 20 parking spaces and 40 cars. Hooray, we found people! Many cars turned around but PB and I persevered. 15 mins later we were in front of Maine's 3,000+ lighthouses. Believe this one was first used in 1868, still used.

Our lunch spot, seriously what's to improve!

If you're interested knowing more about Acadia's Sweetgrass - here's a good place to start. The park service shouldn't be proud of itself.
